Eva Jean Coburn, age 93 of Shelby, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Eva was born on October 8, 1932, in Floyd County, Kentucky, to the late Claude and Emma (Hicks) Ousley. She graduated from Floyd County High School in the class of 1950. She met the love of her life, Arnold Coburn, and on December 11, 1951 they were married. The couple moved to Shelby shortly after getting married to settle down and begin their family. This would result in them living in Shelby for over the next 60 years. Once in Shelby, Eva found work at Arcelor Mittal, then known as “The Tuby”, where she worked for over 30 years before her retirement.

Eva was known for being an immaculate homemaker. She kept a clean and tidy home where everything always had a place and provided well for family by making wonderful homemade meals. She loved quilting and met with a group of women at Little Rebekah Church weekly for fellowship and quilting. Eva was also passionate about rug hooking. She would create beautifully designed rugs and enter craft shows to sell her work. One of her favorite local craft shows that she liked to visit and display her work at was Kingwood Center.

Believe it or not, Eva was also known for being a great shot and enjoyed her fair share of turkey shoots over the years. As a homemaker, Eva’s skills extended beyond the home and into the homestead, where she had an amazing green thumb. She used her green thumb to grow a large and luscious vegetable garden every year, which she would use to provide for and feed her family. Eva was selfless with an absolute heart of gold. She loved her family and those that she held dear to her heart. She was always willing to help others in their time of need. As a natural caregiver, she took great joy and pride in helping others, often bringing food to comfort them during a difficult time.

Those who will cherish her memories include her son, Vaughn (Cynthia) Coburn of Mansfield, Ohio, and nephew, Michael (Gina) Williams of Shelby.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arnold Coburn, whom passed away in 1998 and sister Orena Williams.

Per the family’s wishes services will be privately held at Greenlawn Cemetery in Plymouth, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in Eva’s memory to the Alzheimers association online at https://www.alz.org/.
