MADISON TOWNSHIP — Doug Rickert worked his magic again.

Madison’s athletic director and first-year girls coach was selected the Division III Coach of the Year when All-Northwest District teams were unveiled Thursday evening.

He shared the honor with Celina’s Bret Baucher.

Madison’s former baseball and boys basketball coach, Rickert took over the girls program last June. He piloted the Rams to a 15-9 record and a runner-up spot in the Ohio Cardinal Conference.

The Rams reached the Division III district final before falling to Toledo Central Catholic last weekend.

Madison’s Maddie Berry was a third-team pick. The 5-foot-8 senior averaged 12 points a game.

Morgan Cook was an honorable-mention selection for the Rams. The 5-foot-5 senior averaged 12.3 points a game.

Ontario’s Rylee Milner was a second-team selection. The 5-foot-11 junior averaged 13.9 points and 7.8 rebounds a game.

Division IV

Shelby’s Chloe Mahek earned a spot on the all-district first team in Division IV.

A 5-foot-8 junior, Mahek averaged 15.2 points a game. She led the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference with 9.7 rebounds a game. She ranked among MOAC leaders with 3.5 steals a night. 

Teammates Braylee Sturts and Natalie Kennard were honorable-mention selections, along with Lexington’s Tatum Stover.

Division V

Clear Fork’s Ava Boccio was selected the Division V Player of the Year, sharing the honor with Ottawa-Glandorf’s Karsyn Erford.

A 5-foot-8 junior, Boccio averaged 17.1 points per game. She ranked second in the MOAC in scoring.

Clear Fork’s Brinley Barnett was a second-team pick, while Eliana Pelkey was a third-teamer. Barnett averaged 9.5 points a game and led the MOAC with 6.5 assists a night. Pelkey averaged 9.0 points a game.

Clear Fork’s Ashtyn Wine and Millie Chamberlain were honorable-mention picks along with Galion’s Makayla Halbisen, Makenzie Halbisen and Claire Tackett.

Division VI

Crestview’s Tori Kidney earned a spot on the Division VI second team. The senior averaged 12.3 points a game.

Mansfield Christian’s Zy’Eir Davis was a third-teamer. The senior averaged 13.4 points a game.

Mansfield Christian’s Brooklyn Rider and Crestview’s Shelby Bays were honorable-mention picks.

Division VII

Lucas’ Riley Trumpower was selected to the second team in Division VII. The 5-foot-8 sophomore averaged 11.9 points per game.

Crestline’s Jocelyn Noblit was a third-team selection. The 5-foot-3 junior averaged 14 points a game.

Plymouth’s Kendyll Tolbert, Lucas’ Katie Griffey and Crestline’s Kori Nechovski were honorable-mention selections.
