CANTON — Ontario senior Tessa Crum and her classmates couldn’t have scripted a better ending.
The Warriors finished seventh in the final girls team standings with 95 points during the final day of the Division II state swim meet.
Crum, Sasha Bulakovski and Joie Simmering made their last appearance at C.T. Branin Natatorium one to remember.
“It means the most to me. We’ve done so much more work than we’ve ever done,” Crum said after anchoring the 400 yard freestyle relay team to a sixth-place finish in 3:37.47. “I just love sharing this with them.”
Simmering, sophomore Ava Zehe and junior Mirielle Trumpower joined Crum in the 400 freestyle relay.
“I just love swimming with my girls so much,” Simmering said. “I’m so glad that I got this opportunity to swim it with them.”
The three seniors teamed with Trumpower to take third in the 200 free relay in 1:38.21. The quartet shaved .24 off Thursday’s qualifying time.
“Being on the podium is an amazing feeling,” Bulakovski sad. “I love the girls so much and being able to do this with them is amazing.
“I see them every day in practice working so hard and it makes you want to work harder.”
A junior, Trumpower finished second in both the 100 butterfly (54.49) and the 100 backstroke (56.89). She medaled in four events for the second year in a row.
“I couldn’t be more proud of these girls,” Trumpower said from the deck after the 400 free relay. “It’s been such an amazing year, our last year with our seniors, and I’m so grateful.”
Smooth Watters
Lexington’s Cooper Watters capped his career with a pair of podium finishes. He was seventh in the 200 individual medley (1:57.20) and seventh in the 500 free (4:47.03).
“It feels amazing,” Watters said after the grueling 500 free. “It was my first time getting to the ‘A’ finals individually. It’s everything I ever dreamed of.
“I got in the consolation finals all three years before this year. Getting in the ‘A’ finals is unlike any other feeling.”
Lex teammate Kayla Caldwell finished 13th in the 500 freestyle. She touched the wall in 5:24.93.
Sprinters Shine
Clear Fork’s Estella Gandee and Loudonville’s Cooper Sage both reached the ‘B’ final in the 50 freestyle.
Gandee finished 10th in 24.57. Sage was 13th in 22.02.
