ONTARIO — Grantham Trumpower and his Ontario teammates aren’t going on a sight-seeing tour this week in Canton.

They consider the journey to C.T. Branin Natatorium and the state swimming tournament to be a business trip.

The Division II swimming prelims begin Thursday afternoon and Ontario will look to improve on last year’s historic finish.

The boys finished sixth in last year’s final team standings with 101 points. The girls (83) were eighth.

Trumpower is part of two relays that are seeded first ahead of Thursday’s prelims. The 200 yard medley relay team of Trumpower, Colten Montgomery, Carson Smith and Owen Walter clocked a 1:34.48 at last week’s Bowling Green district meet. The same foursome make up the 200 freestyle relay crew, which clocked in at 1:26.21 last week.

Trumpower also qualified in two individual events. He’s seeded third in both the 50 free and 100 free. He finished fourth in the 100 last year.

Smith qualified individually in both the 200 individual medley (seeded eighth) and the 100 breast (eighth).

Montgomery will compete in both the 100 butterfly (ninth) and the 100 backstroke (fourth).

Walter is seeded 14th in the 100 free.

Connor Robinson is seeded 30th in the 200 IM and 13th in the 100 breaststroke.

Jackson Świątek is seeded 20th in the 200 IM and 13th in the 100 back. 

Jack Rietschlin is seeded 14th in the 500 free and 15th in the 100 back.

Walter, Robinson, Rietschlin and Swiatek are seeded fifth in the 400 free relay.

On the girls side, Mirielle Trumpower is seeded first in the 100 butterfly and second in the 100 second in the 100 backstroke. 

A junior, Mirielle also is a member of  the fifth-seeded 200 medley relay team along with Joie Simmering, Sasha Bulakovski, Tessa Crum. The 400 free relay team of Trumpower, Zoey Shaffer, Lily Secrist, Ava Zehe is seeded eighth.

Crum qualified individually in both the 50 free (14th) and the 100 free (21st). 

Bulakovski is seeded 32nd in the 50 free. Simmering is seeded 27th in the 500 free.

Bulakovski, Zehe, Simmering and Crum are seeded seventh in the 200 free relay.

Lexington’s Kayla Caldwell and Cooper Watters each qualified in two individual events. Caldwell is seeded 22nd in the 200 free and 13thin the 500 free. Watters is seeded sixth in the 200 IM and eighth in the 500 free.

Caldwell is also a member of the 400 free relay team, joining Gabi Twedt, Maggie Nolan and Emily Woods. They are seeded 22nd.

Lady Lex’s 200 medley relay team is seeded 15th.

Watters is also a member of Lexington’s 200 and 400 free relay teams. The foursome of Watters, Kenny Konves, Peyton McFadden and Owen Garver is seeded 18th in the 200. The same quartet is seeded 21st in the 400.

Loudonville’s Cooper Sage qualified in both the 50 and 100 free. He’s seeded 14th in the 50 and 25th in the 100.
