About the event:
We are excited to invite you to our upcoming fundraising event, where we aim to raise money for my father, Donnie Jackson. Donnie is a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, partner and friend. This event is open to the public! Please come join us in supporting Donnie on his journey with ALS! We will have live music, dinner from 5p-6p, 50/50 drawing, raffle items, items for auction, and a bake sale!
Recently, our hearts have been devastated by the news that Dad was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), often called Lou Gehrig’s disease.
ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Essentially, the motor neurons that provide voluntary muscle control begin to die. Over time, this takes away a person’s ability to walk, speak, eat, and eventually, breathe. While his mind will remain as sharp and vibrant as ever, his body is slowly losing the ability to keep up.
While there is currently no cure for ALS, there is a lot we can do to maintain Dad’s quality of life. However, ALS is one of the most expensive diseases a family can face. As the disease progresses, the financial demands will grow significantly. Home accessibility, mobility equipment, medical expenses, transportation, and communication technology, like devices that will allow Dad to speak using his eyes when he can no longer use his voice. We do not know how much time he has left with us on this earth, but we would like to make him comfortable for the remaining time.
Thank you all for your suport! We hope to see you there!
