MOUNT VERNON — A 24-year-old motorcycle operator was killed in a crash Saturday evening, according to the Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said Dylan Severns of Mount Vernon was driving a Kawasaki KX100 dirt
bike northbound on Walnut Alley at 10:53 p.m.

As Severns approached the intersection of Sunset Street, he went off the north side of the road and struck a utility pole guy wire, according to the patrol.

A guy wire is a high-tensile, tensioned cable designed to add lateral stability and support to tall, free-standing structures such as radio masts, utility poles, wind turbines, and tents.

Troopers said Severns was taken to Knox Community Hospital by Mount Vernon Fire/EMS, where he would later died from his injuries.

Severns was not wearing a helmet, according to the patrol.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Mount Vernon Police Department, Mount Vernon City Fire/EMS, and On the Spot Towing.

The crash remains under investigation, according to the patrol.
