James H. “Jim” Dill, 74, of Galion, passed peacefully to his heavenly home on January 14, 2026 at Crestwood Care Center in Shelby. Born March 9, 1951, in Ames, Iowa, he was the son of the late Thomas R. “Dick” and Margaret J. “Mickey” Dill.
Jim was a graduate of Galion High School, Class of 1969. He attended First Presbyterian Church. Jim worked for United Telephone Company and its successors, retiring from Sprint. He later worked security at the Ontario General Motors plant. Jim enjoyed Harley Davidson motorcycles and Volkswagen Beetles. He built a trike with a Harley front end and a Volkswagen rear end and engine, as well as a sand rail from a Volkswagen Beatle chassis and engine. He enjoyed working in his barn, with the music turned up.
Jim is survived by his wife, Sherrie (Dessecker) Dill, whom he married June 11, 1988; daughter Kimberly (Nathan) Lovely of Galion; granddaughters Aubrey and Maggie Lovely; brother T. Jeffrey (Caroline) Boord-Dill of Richmond, KY. He is survived by his mother-in-law L. Annette Dessecker; sister-in-law Debra (Michael) Walker; brother-in-law Jeffrey (Leslie) Dessecker; brother-in-law Craig Dessecker; nephews Andrew Walker; Kyle Dessecker; Adam Dessecker; and extended family. He was preceded by his father-in-law Marvin Dessecker.
A memorial service for friends and family will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Grace Point Church in Galion, with visitation beginning at 1:00 pm.
