MANSFIELD — There were lots of birthdays being celebrated Sunday at Richland Carrousel Park.

There were several children’s parties around the 75 N. Main St. facility.

RCP, itself, is marking its 35th year, born in the summer of 1991.

But the biggest birthday celebration on Sunday from 11 a.m to 4 p.m. was the launch of the “America 250” as the United States prepares to mark its semiquincentennial on July 4.

Snow left from Winter Storm Fern still lay several inches deep on the lawn. But the familiar music and warm spirits filled the inside of RCP.

There were American flags everywhere. Uncle Sam walked around, handing out more of the red, white and blue. Face paintings were offered. Hot dogs, brats, chips and even something called “The Big Pickle” were on the menu.

The famous carousel carried young — and young at heart — around and around throughout the event.
