Irene Cooper, 84, went to be with the Lord while surrounded by her loving family on January 27, 2026. Born February 10, 1941, in Ophir, Kentucky, she was the beloved daughter of Robert and Myrtle (Cantrell) Cox. On April 4, 1959, Irene married the love of her life, Jonathan Thomas Cooper, whom she met at church where his father served as pastor.
Together, they shared nearly 60 years of marriage and raised two children. Tom preceded her in death on September 4, 2017, and Irene carried his memory close to her heart.
Irene spent time working at Westinghouse, and later became a realtor. Irene enjoyed exercising and was a regular swimmer at the Mansfield YMCA.
Faith was the foundation of Irene’s life. She was a devoted follower of Christ and an active member of Journey Life Center. She loved witnessing to others and talking about Jesus. She enjoyed listening to her Bible on audio as well as Bible trivia. She never missed an opportunity to share her faith.
Irene loved sewing, shopping and most of all, her family. She devoted her life to caring for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Often described as “world’s best grandma,” her life was a living testimony of love, service, and unwavering faith.
Irene is survived by her two children Tommy (Pam) Cooper of Shiloh, Marcia (Dave) Harmon of Ontario; seven grandchildren Eric Barnett, Adam Barnett, Jonathan Cooper, Erica (Dave) Hammer, Marissa (Kyle) Hornfeck, David Harmon, Ali Harmon, Jeni Harmon (Theodore Stitzel); nine great grandchildren Madalyn, Owen, Norah, Shepherd, Clementine, Vanessa, Trevor, Ace, and Wesley; special niece Jill (Allen) Wheeler along with many extended family members and friends.
In addition to her husband, Tom Cooper, Irene was preceded in death by her siblings James, Wanda, Ron, Clyde and Wayne.
