Richard “Dick” D. Renie
Richard D. Renie, 90, of Mansfield, went to his heavenly home on January 10, 2026, after a fall at a rest stop near Williamsport, PA. He passed away at the UPMC Williamsport Hospital with Mary Specht at his side.
He was born July 23, 1935, in Mansfield, Ohio; graduated from St. Peter’s High School and served in the U. S. Army starting in 1958. He was deployed to Germany as an Army cook. While there, Richard met the first love of his life, Paula Maria Fischer, and they married in Germany in 1960. Upon returning to Mansfield, they enjoyed a fifty-five-years’ marriage before Paula passed away on February 28, 2016.
Richard always had an interest in drafting; his father was an engineer and taught Richard basic drafting. Richard took additional courses in drafting, and joined Shaffer, Johnston, Lichtenwalter & Associates, Inc., spending the next forty years creating detailed structural drawings for several major bridge projects. He enjoyed his work and retired from SJL Inc in 2001.
Richard spent many years as a volunteer at St. Peter’s Church, serving on festival committees, Easter bake sales, and oversaw the “Feed the Needy” program for over thirty-five years. He also spent several years as a volunteer at Kingwood Gardens, serving as a greeter.
While volunteering at St. Peter’s he found his second love in life, Mary Specht, with whom he spent the past eight years of his life. They shared travel, remodeling their home, loving their three kitties, entertaining, and enjoying life together. “Dick” and Mary could always be found either in Amish Country, at Put-In-Bay, or on a senior bus trip.
Richard was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, Liederkranz, Amvets Post #26, and Kingwood Gardens.
He is survived by Mary Specht; his nephew, James Renie of Englis, FL; and a niece, Peggy Priebe, of Springfield, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Marie Renie; one brother, Robert, in 1996; and wife, Paula, in 2016.
A memorial service will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, South Mulberry St., Mansfield, Ohio, at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 30. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon following the service at the St. Peter’s Franciscan Center.
Gifts in memory of Richard D. Renie may be made to St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 104 West 1st Street, Mansfield, Ohio 44902.
