MANSFIELD – Richland Academy of the Arts has announced registration is open for a new program titled “StrongHER TogetHER.”
This free program is made up of five separate workshops for female athletes ages 12 to 18 and their female parent/guardian focusing on mental health topics and hands on activities related to each subject.
Leading the main workshops will be Amanda Miller, a licensed MSN, RN, PMHNP-BC, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, ANCC Board Certified and Jacy Warrick, LPCC-S, ATR and a licensed professional clinical counselor with supervisory designation, a registered Art Therapist, EMDR Therapist and Somatic Practitioner with more than seven years of experience in mental health working with adults, couples and children.
Participants will also have the opportunity to work with and learn from Ohio Health Physical Therapists, Ashland University Dieticians in collaboration with Idea Works Kitchen, Visual Artist and Instructor, Autumn Cadle, and Yoga instructor Erin Wolford.
“We (Richland Academy of the Arts; RAA) are so excited to be able to offer this new program,” said dance department chair Sarah Horrigan-Ramos.
“Knowing how hard our dancers work not just in the studio but at school and other outside activities and the common conversations about mental health in our current society, makes this program relevant not just for dancers, but all young female athletes.
“Moms and guardians are often searching for words and tools to help their daughters navigate their teenage years and their chosen sport(s). Our goal, through these five workshops, is to give young female athletes and their parent/guardian opportunities to engage in conversation and activities to help them handle the stresses & challenges they face through the guidance of mental health professionals.”
This program, developed by Amanda Miller, Pam Madore & Sarah Horrigan-Ramos, is FREE thanks to the grant awarded to RAA from the Women’s Fund of the Richland County Foundation.
Registration is available through RAA’s website richlandacademy.com. Participants must be 12 to 18 years old, reside in Richland County & a female parent/guardian must register and participate in the workshop as well. Students and parents may register for all five workshops, but if your schedule only allows you to participate in one, that is OK as well; each workshop is designed to stand alone.
All sessions will take place at the Richland Academy of the Arts on Saturday’s between 2 and 5 p.m. on Feb. 7 (Leadership & Physical Wellness), February 21 (Comparison Trap & Art in Motion), March 7 (Hormones & their role in Mental Health & Nutrition), March 21 (Anxiety and yoga), & April 11 (Navigating relationships with parents, coaches/teacher, friends and Art in Motion).
