MANSFIELD — OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR© certification once again for superior energy performance.
This is the third year the hospital has earned the ENERGY STAR®, reflecting a legacy of continued energy savings.
“Improving the energy efficiency of our nation’s buildings is critical to protecting our environment,” said Cindy Jacobs, chief of the ENERGY STAR commercial and industrial branch. “From the boiler room to the board room, organizations are leading the way by making their buildings more efficient and earning EPA’s ENERGY STAR certification.”
ENERGY STAR® is the only energy efficiency certification in the United States that is based on actual, verified energy performance. Hospitals that receive this certification are verified to perform in the top 25% of buildings nationwide, based on weather-normalized source energy use that takes into account occupancy, hours of operation, and other key metrics.
Mansfield Hospital’s sustainability efforts continue to grow. The hospital building earned an ENERGY STAR® score of 83 this year, two points higher than last year. This means Mansfield Hospital is now more energy efficient than 83% of similar properties nationwide. Some of the hospital’s energy efficiency efforts over the last year include utilizing outside air cooling when available, lowering gas consumption through a modernized boiler system, and frequent review of the heating, cooling, and air system.
Mansfield Hospital is one of two OhioHealth hospitals to achieve ENERGY STAR® certification. For more information about ENERGY STAR for Buildings and Plants, click here.
