Mary Josephine (Thompson) (Lilly) Maynor, 85, of Galion, passed away peacefully and was welcomed with arms wide open by her Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital.
Mary Jo was born on March 29, 1940, in the family home in Colcord, West Virginia, to the late Woodrow and Mary (Taylor) Thompson.
Mary Jo graduated from high school in 1958 in Clear Fork, West Virginia. She dedicated her working years as a beautician, owning her own salon, “Mary Jo’s Beauty Salon,” from 1968 until her retirement in 2009.
Mary Jo married her high school sweetheart, Gordon Lilly, Sr., on June 6, 1959. Together, they shared 41 cherished years of marriage and raised three children, and their love continued through the joy of six grandchildren. Gordon preceded her in death on March 26, 2001. In later years, Mary Jo found love again when she married Kelsey Maynor on March 3, 2007. Together, Mary Jo and Kelsey enjoyed traveling, gardening, attending family events, and participating in church activities.
She was a devoted member of Heritage Baptist Church, where her faith was lived out through joyful service. Mary Jo loved singing and spent many years teaching Sunday School, sharing her heart for the Lord with everyone from young children to grown adults. Her hands were rarely still-she poured love into sewing, quilting, crocheting, and creating meaningful t-shirt quilts and cherished teddy bears, including memory bears made to comfort others in their time of grief. She also enjoyed bowling and could often be found cheering proudly from the stands at her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. Ever thoughtful and generous, she faithfully participated in the church’s meal train, quietly caring for others through meals and kind gestures.
In addition to her husband, Kelsey Maynor, Mary Jo’s memories will be cherished by her children: Keith (Ellen) Lilly of Mansfield, David (Angie) Lilly of Bucyrus, and Konda (Steve) Entenmann of Galion; siblings: Betty (Jim) Wood of Florida, Sandy (Don) Yeichner of Bucyrus, and Pat Williams of Florida; 6 grandchildren: Ariel (Kendall) Dials, Tyler (Teneil) Lilly, Dana Lilly, Mandy (Hunter Joseph) Lilly, Morgan (Mitch) Weber, and Todd (Kennedy) Entenmann; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Mary Jo was preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow and Mary Thompson, her late husband, Gordon Lilly, and her brother Woody Thompson, Jr.
Friends may call on Monday, December 29, 2025, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Heritage Baptist Church, 1381 St. Rt. 61, Galion. The funeral service will begin immediately following at 12:00 pm, with Pastor Rodney Noblit officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford County Memory Gardens.
