SHELBY — Shelby’s journey to the state championship football game triggered a late start for the boys basketball team.
But the Whippets showed no ill-effects in their season opener, romping to a 56-45 Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference victory over visiting Clear Fork on Friday night.
Senior Landon Foltz led the way with 18 points, while teammate Michael Shepherd collected 12 points and eight rebounds. Kayden Paz chipped in nine points and Braxton Dawson added eight.
Shelby is 1-0 overall and in the league. The Whippets are at Ontario on Tuesday.
The Colts suffered 20 turnovers in falling to 1-4 overall, 0-3 in the MOAC. Clear Fork returns to action Tuesday at home against Highland.
