On Monday, December 15, 2025 Juanita Louise (Kirkendall) Conaway of Shelby, Ohio passed away. She was born January 20, 1948 in Morgantown, West Virginia to Oliver Franklin Kirkendall and Estelle Ann (Mazurek) Kirkendall.
She was preceded in death by both her parents and her beloved siblings, brother Michael Jack Kirkendall and sister Darlene (Kirkendall) McCormack.
She is survived by her son Tim Selick, daughter Tina (Brian) Birchell, granddaughter Jessica (Johnny Michael) Sturgill and great-grandsons Dylan and Jasper, as well as several Kirkendall family members.
“Sparky” as she was more affectionately known, loved to dance as a young girl and teen. She won several dance contests and was always happy to receive a 45 record as a first-place prize. Whether it was working for the many different factories in the area or as a custodian for the Crestview local school district before she retired, many school staff parents, and students alike came to cherish the caring human being that she was. Everyone came to appreciate her special “Spark,” caring nature and love of people. Her two proudest achievements in life were loving her family and being a good friend to all.
Sparky enjoyed fishing, baking and trying new recipes. She enjoyed bowling and watching The Ohio State Buckeyes football. An avid music lover, her favorite music will always be music of the 60’s and Elvis Presley.
In honoring Sparky’s wishes there will be no memorial service or funeral. Her wishes were that everyone remember her as she was. In lieu of flowers please consider making a contribution to “The Wounded Warrior Project,” a charity that she valued and supported for many years. Donations can be made at www.woundedwarriorproject.org
Her family would like to thank everyone for all of their prayers over the last several weeks, along with Shelby Fire and EMS, Ohio Health Shelby ER staff and the ICU and Surgical staff at Ohio Health Mansfield for the excellent medical attention and caring professionalism that they provided for our mother and family.
