Larry Lee Fried age 78, passed away Monday, December 8, 2025, at St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, surrounded by his loving family.

Born January 13, 1947, in Shelby to Herschel W. and Dorothy J. (Cheeseman) Fried, he had been a Willard resident for over 50 years. A 1965 graduate of Shelby High School, he was an engineer for 37 years for the CSX Railroad company in Willard, retiring in 2007. He was a member of the NRA and served on the Myers Cemetery board of directors where he was the Superintendent and Treasurer since 1995.

Larry was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians. He had followed them so closely that he even kept his own team stats. Larry enjoyed going on vacations out West, traveling to Maine, and exploring Amish country. He and his wife always looked forward to their annual West Virginia trips in the fall to make apple butter and visit family. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s sporting events and having cookouts with his family. There was nothing more important to him than spending time with his loved ones.

Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Shelvey (Kingery) Fried, whom he wed on October 11, 2003; three children, Randy (Sara) Fried of Willard, Ohio, Michelle (Eric) Stephens of Ontario, Ohio and Tami (David) Urie of Willard, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, Cory (Leti) Fried, Elizabeth (Eric) Caudill, Maisee June Fried, Megan Fried, Andrew “A.J.” Fried, Maryssa Claytor, Emily (Grant) Rader, Aaron Stephens, Adison Stephens, Lillian Urie, and Caden Urie; seven great grandchildren; one sister, Cheryl (David) Leech of Bloomfield, New Mexico.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Andy Fried.

Friends may visit the family at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby on Monday, December 15, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM . A funeral service will follow starting at 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Chaplain Michael Leonard will officiate with interment held in the Myers Cemetery in Shelby.
