MANSFIELD — No residents or firefighters were injured Monday afternoon during a structure fire at Chelsea Square Apartments, according to the Mansfield Fire Department.
Three large dogs rescued from the apartment did not survive, firefighters said.
The MFD responded at 3:36 p.m. to the Cline Avenue apartments, the MFD said.
They found smoke coming from one of the apartment units.

“Engine 3, from the Sunset Boulevard station, deployed a line and extinguished the fire. Thanks to their prompt action, the fire was contained to a single unit and did not spread to neighboring apartments,” firefighters said.
The affected unit suffered fire damage and extensive smoke damage.
Fire crews remained on scene for approximately 90 minutes, conducting overhaul operations, while investigators worked to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
According to an IAFF 266 Facebook post, the effort on Monday “was another reminder that cold weather makes everything more complicated.”
“Earlier today, our crews operated at a working apartment fire on Cline Avenue in freezing conditions. Stretching hoses, forcing entry, overhaul, and investigation all become more demanding when temperatures drop. Frozen equipment, icy surfaces, bulky gear, and extended on-scene times pose real risks to firefighters,” the union social media account said.
“Despite the conditions, crews made a quick stop, limited the damage, and worked safely and professionally through overhaul and investigation.
“This is the side of the job the public doesn’t always see — firefighters working for hours in the cold, managing fatigue, hydration, and safety while still getting the job done,” the union said.
As a result of the fire, two adults and two children were displaced. They are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross, according to the fire department.
“The Mansfield Fire Department extends its deepest sympathy to the affected family. We urge all residents to ensure their smoke alarms are functional and to review fire-safety plans for their homes,” the fire department said.
