Rosemary Smarto, 94, passed away on her birthday, Friday, December 5, 2025, at Mill Creek Nursing Home. She was born in Crestline, on December 5, 1931, to the late George and Louise (Feinen) Schill.
Rosemary married her beloved husband, John Smarto, on June 24, 1950, beginning a partnership filled with devotion, laughter, and shared dreams. Their bond remained strong and tender throughout 68 beautiful years of marriage, until John’s passing on January 13, 2018.
She was a devoted member of the St. Joseph Altar and Rosary Societies, as well as the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, where she found deep joy in serving others and building lifelong friendships. Her artistic gifts were evident in all she touched, as she poured her heart into knitting, crocheting, tatting, and China Painting. Through these crafts, she created countless beautiful pieces that continue to be treasured by the family and friends who were blessed to receive them.
Left to cherish Rosemary’s memory are her children: John “Jack” (Darlene) Smarto of Medina, Jane (Doug) Potts of Lexington; and her grandchildren; Nicholas Smarto of Boulder, CO., Lindsay Tomovski of Romeo, MI., and Nathan Carr of Chagrin Falls.
In addition to her parents and John, she is preceded in death by her brother, Raymond Schill.
Friends may call on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm, at Gompf Funeral Service – Crestline Chapel; 223 W. Main St., Crestline. A vigil will be held immediately following visitation at 6:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 10:30am at St. Joseph Catholic Church; 331 N. Thoman St., Crestline, with Father Jeff Smith officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Crestline.
