James E. Means, age 83 of Bellville, passed away on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at his home with his family by his side. He was born on June 28, 1942, in Mansfield to the late Roy and Ethel (Hissong) Means, and on August 5, 1978, he married the love of his life, Sharon (Lee).

Jim proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and flying model planes, as well as spending time with family and friends. He is fondly remembered as a cantankerous man who loved a good dirty joke, often in the least appropriate company, and he was known for his boisterous temperament. If he had a choice word for you, you knew he loved you the most. He was also the type of guy who would take his best coonhound on a hunt, win the big prize, and then come home and snuggle up with his pet racoon.

Jim was truly a character, and he will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his children Vickie Burk, Julianna (Chris) Nicoletti, and Jeff (Vanessa) Webb; his sister Helen Beshel; his grandchildren Camden, Magdalena, Sophia, Rowan, Nathan, Ashly, Erika, Tiffany, Justice, Harley, and Tyler; and his great-grandchildren Dylan and Grayson Farley, Jamison and Jasper Burkett, and McKenna, Charley, Lincoln, and Holland Lee.

He was preceded in death by his wife Sharon Means, his son Jamie Means, his parents Roy and Ethel Means, and his siblings Robert Lloyd Means, Richard Means, Donald Means, Wanda Prosser, Eileen Stuht, Margaret Kaufman, Twila Donaldson, Clarence Means, William Means, and Larry Means.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, 1106 Park Avenue East, Mansfield. Services will follow at 1:00 pm with his niece Tammy Means-Saddler officiating.
