SHELBY — The Shelby community is being asked to help send the Whippet football team to Canton on a high note Thursday morning.
Shelby City Schools has organized another districtwide pep rally at the high school Thursday at 9:35 a.m., according to a press release from Shelby High School Athletic Director Pat Lewis.
Due to limited space in the high school gymnasium, the pep rally is not open to the public.
However, a communitywide send-off will follow the pep rally. The Whippets will depart from the high school around 10:15 a.m. for Canton.
Lewis said the football and cheer buses will be escorted by the Shelby Police Department and Shelby Fire Department down Championship Drive, east along Smiley Avenue, south on Gamble Street, east on Main Street and south on Mansfield Avenue (State Route 39).
“The Shelby community is encouraged to line the “Departure to Canton” route and cheer on the Whippets,” Lewis said.
By defeating Cincinnati Indian Hill this past Friday, the Whippets earned their first-ever trip to the Division IV state championship game. Shelby will play Cleveland Glenville at 10:30 a.m. Friday morning at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.
