MANSFIELD — Sluss Realty has kicked off its annual Holiday Drive to support People Helping People of North Central Ohio, continuing a tradition that organizers say is more important than ever.
The drive collects new and gently-used toys, coats and new socks for families in need during the holiday season.
Donations help stock the People Helping People of North Central Ohio pavilion, where community members can choose gifts, warm clothing and essential items
Distribution day will be on Dec. 12 at 10:40 a.m. at the PHP Pavilion, 73 Bowman St., Mansfield.
“The need this year is greater than anything we’ve seen,” said Sluss Realty co-owner Jami Kinton-Sluss. “Every time we run this drive, we’re reminded how many families are struggling — and how generous this community can be. We’ve already had several parents reach out and asking what day we will be handing out the items.
“If your kids have toys they’ve outgrown, or you’re cleaning out closets for winter and find coats you no longer wear, those items could make a huge difference for a local family.”
People Helping People of North Central Ohio serves meals 365 days a year at its Bowman Street location in downtown Mansfield.
Executive Director Vivian Winters said the partnership with Sluss Realty has become a vital part of their holiday season operations.
“Sluss Realty has partnered with People Helping People for the past several years to ensure our friends in need still experience the magic of Christmas,” Winters said. “Gifts for all ages — from warm outerwear and hygiene products to toys — are brought to the pavilion for our friends to choose from because of people in our community who choose to be kind.”
Kinton-Sluss said the agency is already seeing early interest.
“Every time we post about the drive, people reach out asking how they can help,” she said. “That tells you everything you need to know about how wonderful and generous this community is.”
Donations are being accepted at the company’s Ontario office at 1641 Park Avenue West, Mansfield, which is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
“This drive is one of the most meaningful things we do all year,” Kinton-Sluss said. “We’re grateful for every family, every child and every neighbor who chooses to give a little joy this season.”
