A Blue Spruce dangles from a crane in front of the carrousel building as city workers use a rope to guide it into place
City employees and Shelly Smith and Sons install the City of Mansfield's Christmas tree in front of Richland Carrousel Park.

MANSFIELD — The 2,000 pound silvery Blue Spruce appeared to be weightless as it hovered over Main Street.

Shelly Smith & Sons installed the City of Mansfield’s Christmas tree with a crane Wednesday morning, settling the evergreen in the garden bed at the corner of Main and Fourth Street.

Employees from the City of Mansfield’s public works department cut the tree, wrapped rope around the trunk and helped guide it into place from the ground.

The 30 foot evergreen was donated by Jessica Sauder and Curtis Caldwell Jr, according to Jennifer Kime of Downtown Mansfield Inc.

The tree will be officially lit on Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. during the annual Christmastime in the City celebration. The event lasts from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will offer live reindeer, carriage rides, ice sculpture demonstrations, Christmas caroling and photos with Santa at Richland Carrousel Park.

Kime said downtown roads will be open in time for the event, with the majority of road construction for the Main Street Improvement Project done for the winter.
