MANSFIELD — A full parking lot, long lines and 150 grocery giveaway bags set the tone as KV Market celebrated its transition to Save-A-Lot on Wednesday morning.

Karamjit Bhullar and his wife, Varinder Bhullar, launched KV Market at 359 West Fourth Street in April 2019.

After they bought the building in November 2016, they renovated the 13,000-square-foot space and transformed it from the former E&B Market. The name “KV Market” came from the initials of their first names.

Reduced prices and good deals mark the transition

Dalip Bhullar, son of Karamjit and Varinder, said he feels excited about their continued future in the community, since no other grocery store sits close enough for customers who walk.

He said walking distance played a huge role in the feedback they received from customers.

The store celebrated the transition by giving away free pre-packed bags of groceries to the first 150 customers.

“We had customers lined up early, with the first one in the store at 6:15 a.m.,” Dalip said.

“The parking lot was full and everyone was really excited,” said Avneet Bhullar, daughter of Karamjit and Varinder. “That is why we are here, for the community. We want to serve.”

She added KV Market gave the family seven great years and shaped their experience.

“The neighborhood wanted reduced prices and good deals,” she said. “We feel excited to offer that through this transition.”

Varinder said they want customers to continue offering feedback.

“That supports us and continues to help our store succeed,” she said.

Save-A-Lot back in town

Mayor Jodie Perry noted the significance of the Save-A-Lot brand, saying people recognize it and know what they will get.

“Its huge because after they closed the one on Lexington Avenue everyone missed it,” said Aurelio Diaz, who represents the 5th Ward on Mansfield City Council. “Now they can come here.”

In a previous Richland Source article, Karamjit described KV Market as a cross between a grocery and convenience store. Meat, dairy, produce, snacks and alcohol are among the many items customers can find at the store.

With the transition, shoppers can expect lower prices and expanded inventory under the Save-A-Lot banner.

According to a post on the KV Market Facebook page, the Shawshank Redemption murals located inside and outside will remain exactly as they are.

Operating hours are from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week.
