SHELBY — The Oakland Heritage Connection invites folks to help it remember and honor local heroes by sponsoring a live balsam wreath for veterans resting in Oakland and St. Mary’s Cemeteries.

Each wreath is $17 and $5 from every purchase directly supports preservation and improvement projects in both cemeteries — helping keep these sacred places beautiful year round.

Visit wreathsacrossamerica.org/OH0380P by Dec. 1 to sponsor a wreath easily and securely.

Several opportunities are scheduled for those who would like to sponsor a wreath in person:

  • Nov. 14: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. — Shelby Senior Center, 154 N. Gamble St.
  • Nov. 18: 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. — Oakland Cemetery, off South Gamble Street
  • Nov. 21: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. — Shelby Senior Center, 154 N. Gamble St.
  • Nov 25: 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. — Most Pure Heart of Mary Cemetery, off South Gamble Street (Last chance in person)

On Sat., Dec. 13 at noon, the Wreaths Across America ceremony will take place at Oakland Cemetery. The public is warmly invited to attend, honor local veterans and take part in placing wreaths at gravesites in both cemeteries.

Together, we can ensure that no veteran is forgotten and that their memory lives on in the beauty of every evergreen wreath.
