GALION  — The Galion Kiwanis Club is proud to announce the launch of its latest community project, “The Hungry Are Banking on You!” a city-wide food drive to benefit the Ohio Heartland Community Action Commission Food Pantry.

Grocery carts have been placed at several local financial institutions to make donating easy for community members. Residents can drop off non-perishable food items at any of the following participating locations:

Firelands Federal Credit Union, First Federal Bank of Ohio, GBL Bank, and Park National Bank.

The grocery carts being used for this project were donated for use by Galion’s Save A Lot store, whose generosity helped make this community effort possible.

The project was inspired by Kiwanis member Jody Fraley, who wanted to create a simple and visible way for the Galion community to come together to support neighbors in need.

Carrie Cottrell, along with fellow members Kalina Traxler, Mikayla Johnson, Chris Cochran, and Joe Clime, helped bring Jody’s idea to life by coordinating with local banks and arranging donation sites.

“The response from our local banks and the community has been incredible,” Fraley said. “It’s heartwarming to see how quickly everyone stepped up to help.”

The Galion Kiwanis Club will be accepting donations throughout the month of November. Community members can contribute by dropping off non-perishable food items at any participating bank.

Monetary donations are also welcome and can be made securely through PayPal using the QR code featured on the event flyer.

“Every donation — big or small — helps make a difference,” said Tammy Crabtree, OHCAC Crawford County Center Director. “Your generosity ensures that local families have access to nutritious meals when they need them most.”
