The Phoenix Brewing Company has become a downtown Mansfield favorite, reviving the city’s brewing tradition with award-winning beers, community events, and a welcoming space to gather.

MANSFIELD — When The Phoenix Brewing Company opened its doors in 2014, it wasn’t just adding another bar to downtown Mansfield — it was bringing back a tradition the city had lost.

The idea first took shape in 2012 when a group of local friends and homebrewing enthusiasts started talking about the lack of breweries in the area. At the time, Ohio had fewer than 100 breweries, and none in Mansfield.

“We wanted to create a place that honored Mansfield’s brewing history while giving the community a space to gather again,” co-owner Duncan Macfarlane said.

That vision has grown into a destination known for award-winning beers and a welcoming atmosphere.

The Phoenix pours from 16 taps, offering everything from crisp lagers to hop-forward IPAs, rich stouts, Belgians, and seasonal specialties.

Recipes are often inspired by local collaborations, giving each brew a sense of place. For those who don’t drink beer, the menu includes Ohio wines, craft cocktails, and a variety of non-alcoholic options.

But what makes The Phoenix stand out is its energy. The taproom and patios buzz with activity during trivia, euchre, and bingo nights.

Live music fills the weekends, and annual events like Oktoberfest and seasonal pop-up markets turn the brewery into a community hub.

The Spirit Room, an expansion that’s now nearing its third anniversary, adds another layer with more than 130 bourbons and whiskeys, plus private event space.

More than a decade after those first conversations, The Phoenix Brewing Company has become what the founders hoped for: a place where Mansfield gathers, connects, and celebrates.
