LUCAS — The Cubs circled the wagons and earned their 12th straight playoff berth.

Lucas brings a three-game winning streak into the opening round of the Division VII, Region 27 playoffs.

The 10th-seeded Cubs (5-5) will visit No. 7 Strasburg-Franklin (7-3) on Friday at 7 p.m.

Lucas was 2-5 going into Week 8 before traveling to Pennsylvania and knocking off Reynolds. Wins over Division III Lutheran East and Crestline followed.

Like Lucas, Ontario rode the momentum of a strong second half to a playoff berth. The Warriors (6-4) earned the No. 11 seed in Division III, Region 10 and will visit No. 7 Toledo Central Catholic on Friday at 7 p.m.

Ontario was 2-3 at the midway point of the regular season before winning four of their final five games.

Clear Fork will renew its rivalry with Orrville in the opening round of the Division IV, Region 14 playoffs. The eight-seeded Colts (6-4) will host the ninth-seeded Red Riders at the Colt Corral on Friday. Both schools are former members of the Ohio Cardinal Conference.

Three area schools earned opening-round byes.

Lexington (9-1) locked up the No. 3 seed in Region 10 and will host the winner of the Ontario-Toledo Central Catholic game on Nov. 7.

Both Shelby and Galion earned byes in Region 14. The Whippets (10-0) are the top seed and will host either Orrville or Clear Fork in a regional quarterfinal. The second-seeded Tigers (9-1) will host either Bay Village Bay or Cloverleaf on Nov. 7.
