MANSFIELD – OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital is participating in Lung Cancer Screening Day to help save lives. Lung Cancer remains the second most common cancer in both men and women in the United States.
The screening event will be held on Nov, 8, from 8 a.m. to noon at the 4th Street Imaging Center, located at 1750 W 4th St in Mansfield.
Participants will benefit from Low-Dose Computed Tomography (LDCT) screenings, which have been shown to reduce lung cancer deaths by up to 20% compared to no screening or chest X-rays.
Those eligible include people ages 50 to 80 who are current smokers or have quit within the last 15 years and have no current symptoms of Lung Cancer.
“Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death for both men and women in the U.S,” said Elisa Bryant, MSML, BSN, RN, business project manager of oncology at Mansfield and OhioHealth Shelby Hospitals.
“An LDCT scan is a simple screening test that can detect lung cancer before symptoms start, a crucial step to finding cancer early and treating it for better outcomes.”
While the average five-year survival rate for a lung cancer diagnosis is less than 30%, the survival rate can be over 90% if lung cancer is caught at stage one.
Early detection is key, which is why Mansfield Hospital is doing its part to provide this lifesaving, simple test.
To register for the event, eligible patients should discuss with their primary care provider and obtain an order.
Once the order has been placed, they may contact Bryant at 419-526-8376. Most insurance plans cover the cost of the screening.
