Howard Erwin Spellman, age 82, of Shiloh, passed away Monday, October 20, 2025 at Arbors At Mifflin Nursing Facility with his loving family by his side. He was born on December 5, 1942 to the late Ted Spellman and Thelma Bricker Spellman.

Howard was hard working, patriotic and very social. He enjoyed the little things in life such as time spent with family and friends. He was a dedicated lineman for over 36 years with United Telephone Company. He proudly served his country for two years in Vietnam with the U.S. Army. His military occupational specialty was a wheeled vehicle mechanic, truck driver and fuel hauler. To Howard, it didn’t matter what the job was, he was just proud to serve. In his free time you could find him visiting and reminiscing about old times with friends at the American Legion # 503, V.F.W. # 9943, AMVETS Post 26, Eagles Lodge # 336, the former Moose Lodge of Mansfield, the Fraternal Order of Police and Sons Of Hermann, all organizations he was a lifelong member of and supported in many ways over the years

Some of Howard’s favorite pastimes were riding his Honda Goldwing motorcycle, taking trips to Lake Erie with friends and family and going to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan every year snowmobiling with his son and friends.

Howard will be fondly remembered by his children, Andrew (Ann Durnwald) Spellman and Amy (Brent) Chance; his grandchildren, Brett (fiancée Jericka) Chance and Kelcie Chance; his great-granddaughter, Hallie Chance; his niece, Laura Kirschenheiter; his special friend, Pam Coulter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Copland; his niece, Sue Cole; his brother-in-law, Bill Copland.

Burial with full military honors will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 in Mansfield Cemetery
