Daniel Jay Ernsberger, age 75 of Shelby, passed away Friday morning, October 10, 2025.

He was born on November 19, 1950 to the late Clarence Roger and Catheryn (Boggs) Ernsberger  in Shelby, Ohio. Daniel spent most of his childhood in Florida where he graduated from Clearwater High School in 1968. After graduation, Daniel served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.  Following his service in the Army, Daniel moved back to Shelby to found Ernsberger Auto, where he worked until his retirement.

He went to the American Legion for 50 years, and spent his free time working on and Drag Racing at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk.

He is survived by his five children, Danny (Terra) Ernsberger Mansfield, Ohio, Eric (Tonya) Ernsberger of Troy, Alabama, Brandy (Tyler) Potts of Ontario, Ohio, Austin Lee Ernsberger of Shelby and Robert “Cole” Ernsberger of Shelby; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; his sister, Rita Eldridge of Shelby, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his father and step-mother, Clarence and Wyona Ernsberger, his mother, Catheryn Ernsberger, his siblings Charles “Ernie” Ernsberger and Carol Ernsberger. and his first wife, Gloria Ernsberger.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025 starting at 11:00 AM at Oakland Cemetery with Richland County Joint Veteran Services presenting military honors. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at The American Legion, O’Brien Post 326, 89 E. Main Street, Shelby, Ohio 44875.
