MADISON TOWNSHIP — Longtime Madison girls soccer coach Zac Huff resigned Wednesday, effective immediately.

Kelly O’Brien will take over as interim head coach, with help from boys’ coach Tim Lord.

No reason was offered on Thursday for the resignation.

“We want to thank coach Huff for all his hard work and dedication to our soccer program,” Madison athletic director Doug Rickert said in a release.

The Rams are 6-7-1 this season and in the hunt for a Ohio Cardinal Conference championship. Madison is 5-1 in OCC play and can clinch a share of the title with a win at Lexington on Thursday.

Huff took over the program in 2015. The Rams were 147-55-20 under Huff and won the Division II state championship in 2020.

He piloted the program to a state runner-up finish in 2019 and the state semifinals in 2017. Madison won six OCC championships and six district titles in his 11 seasons.

The 2020 Rams thundered to the Division II state title, beating Granville 2-1 in the final at Historic Crew Stadium. Huff’s daughter, Taylor, was Ohio’s Ms. Soccer that year. She played collegiately at Tennessee and Florida State, winning a national championship with the Seminoles in 2023. She plays professionally for Bay FC of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).

The Madison athletic department declined further comment.
