Stone sign for Ohio State Highway Patrol

WAYNE COUNTY — A 76-year-old man was found dead after a one-vehicle crash in Wayne County on Thursday afternoon, according to the Wooster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The driver of the vehicle, David Clay Wertz, 76, of Orrville, was found dead in the vehicle after the accident at 2:15 p.m.

Troopers responded to a report of a vehicle in a ditch along Apple Creek Road, a call that came in from a passing motorist. A medical emergency may have played a role in the crash, according to the patrol.

The accident occurred about one mile north of U.S. 250, troopers said.

Members of the Apple Creek/East Union Township Fire Department arrived on the scene and saw a 2020 gray Chrysler Pacifica had traveled off the left side of the road and came to rest at the bottom of a small embankment.

Assisting on scene were the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, Apple Creek/East Union
Township Fire Department, Wayne County Coroner’s Office and North End Towing.

The crash is under investigation, the patrol said.
