Lexington's Seven Allen looks for an opening during Friday's game against Mansfield Senior..

LEXINGTON — Lexington’s big guns fired en masse in the first half to stake the Minutemen to a comfortable lead and eventually a 48-6 Ohio Cardinal Conference win over visiting Mansfield Senior.

Quarterback Joe Caudill tossed a pair of touchdown passes in the first quarter, 24 yards to Brayden Fogle and 33 yards to Seven Allen, to stake Lex to a 14-0 lead heading to the second period.

Then the floodgates opened.

Markale Martin scored on a 7-yard jaunt, Fogle returned an interception 24 yards for a TD, Martin squirted free for a 22-yard touchdown, and Cohen Boozer recovered a fumble in the end zone.

That made it 41-0 at intermission, and triggered a running clock for the entire second half.

Martin’s third touchdown came on a 10-yard run late in the third quarter to open a 48-0 bulge.

Senior High averted the shutout when quarterback Sean Tanner connected with D.J. Corbin for a 36-yard TD midway through the fourth period.

Caudill completed 10-of-16 passes for 168 yards and two scores. Allen caught four aerials for 82 yards and a TD. Fogle collected three catches for 63 yards and a touchdown. Martin ran for 64 yards and three scores on jut nine carries.

Tanner hit on 13-of-29 passes for 142 yards and a score, while Corbin snagged seven catches for 130 yards and a TD.

Mansfield Senior falls to 0-6 overall, 0-3 in the OCC. It’s the Tygers first 0-6 start since 1997. Senior High hosts undefeated Ashland at Arlin Field next week.

Lexington is now 5-1, 2-0 heading into a tricky assignment next week at West Holmes. The Knights improved to 5-1 after pounding Wooster on Friday night.
