GALION — The Galion Tiger Alumni Band (GTAB), one of the oldest and most active high school alumni bands in the state, will hold its first rehearsal on Sunday, Sept. 14 at the Galion High School bandroom at 3 p.m.

This rehearsal is to prepare for the upcoming 50th anniversary of GTAB. Alumni night will be Friday, Oct. 10. This is part of the Homecoming Celebration and Connections Weekend for the Galion High School.

All former Galion band members are invited back to Alumni Night to help celebrate this special anniversary.

“We would like to see at least 100 former band members,” said longtime director of GTAB Brian Treisch. “This should be an easy goal to reach.”

Older members or members not wishing to march are urged to attend and join in playing for this event.

“We are curious to see who is the oldest band member to return,” said Kristine Karbula, current GTAB president.

Music for halftime for Alumni Night will be “Make Me Smile,” a number played at the first alumni band night, “You Can Call Me Al,” and “Hey Jude.”

In addition to the halftime performance GTAB will join the current band at pregame playing “Stand Up and Cheer,” “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “Hail to the Orange,” “Tiger Rag,” and “Eye of the Tiger.”

A postgame performance is being planned.

“We are hoping to include current sixth and seventh grade band members to have a past, present and future Tiger Band on the field,” Treisch said. “The is being worked out with the current band director.”

GTAB will practice every Sunday until the performance at 3 p.m. at the high school bandroom.

“We will work on music, then practice marching on the last rehearsals,” Treisch said. “There will be a rehearsal on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 5 p.m. prior to the bonfire and pep rally and one final rehearsal at 5 p.m. on game day.”
