Nadine Cecelia Studer, age 98, long-time resident of Shelby, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at The Willows at Willard Nursing Facility in Willard, Ohio, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on April 5, 1927, in Crestline, Ohio, to the late John and Irene (Cattey) Kress. Prior to moving to Shelby, she attended Denby High School in Detroit, Michigan. She was employed with Sears Department Store for over 24 years, before her retirement. She was a devout Catholic and cherished member of the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
Nadine was a talented seamstress. She used her talent to make many of her husband’s sport coats. Throughout the years, she enjoyed playing bingo, doing arts, crafts, and ceramics. She absolutely loved to be outdoors either fishing or tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. Her way with words was beautiful as she was known for writing thoughtful, heartfelt letters to her family and friends. Family bus trips with her husband, aunt, nieces, nephews, or whoever else wanted to tag along were some of her most cherished memories. The bus trips would travel to various destinations and would leave her feeling full from time well spent with the people she loved. She adored her grandchildren and loved spending time with them. Nadine’s caring and compassionate personality will truly be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her two children, Janet Lay of Shelby and Steven (Laurie) Studer of Norwalk, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Kipper Studer of Shelby; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren; brother, Eugene W. Kress of Shelby; sister-in-law, Margaret May Studer; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Norbert Studer, in 2021; son, Michael Studer; brother, Paul Kress; sister, Kay Ann Kirkwood; sister-in-law, Ethel Kress; and son-in-law, Stephen Lay.
Per Nadine’s wishes, calling hours were not observed. A funeral mass was held at the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Shelby with interment held in the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery.
