Edwin “Ed” Eugene McCleese, 75, of Galion, passed away with his wife by his side on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at his home.

Ed was born on March 16, 1950, in Galion to the late Richard “Ted” and Harriet “Eva” (Keirns). He married Debra Fairchild on February 10, 1979, and she survives in Galion.
Ed was a graduate of Galion High School, Class of 1969. After high school, he was drafted in the United States Army and served our country faithfully during the Vietnam War. Ed worked as a mason, owning M&M Masonry with his dad and later operating the company with his sons. He was known for his exceptional craftsmanship and unwavering work ethic, traits that reflected his character both at work and in life.

Ed was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in bird hunting and shooting clay birds. As a pheasant guide at Elkhorn Lake in Bucyrus, he cherished the time spent in nature, sharing his love for the outdoors with others. His laughter and great sense of humor were infectious, often punctuated by the many jokes he loved to tell, bringing joy to those around him.

In addition to his outdoor adventures, Ed had a passion for woodworking, where his creativity came to life in various projects. Above all, Ed was a devoted family man. He took immense pride in his grandchildren, always being there for them and anyone who needed a helping hand.

Left to cherish Ed’s memories are his wife, Debra of 46 years; his children; Scott (Rose Campbell) McCleese, Troy (fiancé Dawn Lohr) McCleese, Joshua McCleese and Chelsea (fiancé Alex Miller) McCleese, all of Galion; 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; and siblings; Ted (Colleen) McCleese of Crestline, Dee (Murel) Bowe of Samford, NC, Chris (Laura) McCleese of Columbus and Joyce (Rusty) Miller of Galion.
