ERIE COUNTY — A 34-year-old Wakeman woman died in a one-vehicle crash early Sunday morning in Erie County, according to the Sandusky Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The wreck happened at 12:18 a.m. on Darrow Road just east of Furnace Street in Vermilion Township, troopers said.

Sarah Gehringer, 34, was driving a 2003 Dodge Dakota eastbound on Darrow Road.

“Ms. Gehringer was traveling too fast exiting a curve and lost control of the vehicle,” troopers said.

Gehringer’s vehicle went off the left side of the road, striking a utility pole and two trees. She was ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

Gehringer was pronounced dead at the scene and was later transported to Riddle Funeral Home, troopers said.

The patrol said Gehringer was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash and that alcohol and/or drugs appear to be factors in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation, troopers said.

The OSHP was assisted at the scene by several agencies, including the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, Vermilion Township Fire & EMS and Dunn Rite Towing.
