SHELBY — The Shelby community will gather on Sept. 19 at 6:15 p.m. at the Whippet Athletic Complex for a special dedication ceremony honoring America’s prisoners of war (POW) and those who have been declared missing in action (MIA).
The ceremony will unveil a newly dedicated POW/MIA Chair of Honor, a permanent reminder of the brave men and women who served our nation and never returned home.
This empty chair symbolizes their absence and stands as a solemn pledge that they are not forgotten.
The chair was generously purchased through the efforts of Shelby FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) and ArcelorMittal, reflecting the power of partnership between local youth leadership and community business support.
“We wanted to create a lasting tribute here in Shelby that will remind generations to come of the sacrifice of those who never came home,” said Kelly Jung, Shelby FCCLA adviser.
“This chair will stand as a symbol of remembrance and gratitude,” Jung said.
The event will include remarks from community leaders, the dedication of the chair, the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, and will conclude with the solemn playing of Taps.
Community members are invited and encouraged to attend this meaningful event. Media outlets are invited to attend this event to provide coverage.
