Mildred “Midge” Ruby Parnell of Mansfield passed away Tuesday afternoon, August 19, 2025, at Crystal Care Nursing Center in Mansfield. She was 94 years old.
Born December 19, 1930, in Vanceburg, Kentucky, she was one of nine children of the late Irene (Lewis) and Othiel Burriss. For a time, she worked at a local store, Ruth’s Mini Mart and retired from MedCentral Mansfield Hospital where she worked in the housekeeping department. Mildred enjoyed gardening and relaxed with a good book whenever she could. She was a natural caregiver and especially enjoyed caring for and spending time with her family.
Mildred is survived by three children, Thomas (Peggy) Parnell, Shirley (Rick) Gimbel and Michael Parnell; a brother, Glen Burriss; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many beloved family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Orville “Pete” Parnell; son, Joseph Parnell; and seven siblings, Willard Burriss, Charles Burriss, Nelson Burriss, Gene Burriss, Larry Burriss, Janet Meadows and Phyllis Ann Burriss.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Monday, August 25, 2025, at Wappner Funeral Directors and Crematory-Ontario, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. A graveside service conducted by Pastor Jim Marshall will immediately follow at 12:15 p.m. in Mansfield Memorial Park.
