Thomas Garrison, age 91 of Mansfield, passed away on Friday, August 15, 2025, at his home. He was born on September 30, 1933, in Augusta, Virginia, to the late Daniel and Mary (Ferrell) Garrison, and on June 16, 1951, he married the love of his life, Marcelene “Mot” (Dunlap). One fateful day, she slipped on the ice, and he caught her in his arms and never let go. On August 15, it was her turn to catch him.
Thomas worked as a roofer for over 30 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, spending much of his time fishing, coon hunting with his coonhounds, or camping, and he also enjoyed his country music.
He was a true gentleman, and he dedicated his life to his wife and his family. When Mot got sick, he made sure he was there for her in every possible way he could be, and he was by her side until the very end.
Thomas was the unofficial neighborhood watch, and he enjoyed sitting outside and watching the birds and the deer. He also loved going on drives with his family to see the eagles in the area, and he knew where every nest was. He was always happiest with family. Nothing beat a cookout where everyone had the chance to get together.
He had a sharp memory and plenty of stories to tell, and he never knew a stranger. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his children Terry (Candy) Garrison, Thomas (Gloria) Garrison, Jr., and Chyrle (Joe) Thompson; his grandchildren Vickie, Abby, Brad, Stephanie, Tom III, and Rachel; his great-grandchildren Remington, Sky, Chey, Hannah, Tommy IV, Jazmine, Isreal, Lucas, Hudson, and Christian; and his great-great-grandchildren Anna, Charlie, and Maven.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mot Garrison; his parents Daniel and Mary; and his siblings Daniel, Ruth, Ethel, Carol, and Harley “Unc.”
