Steven “Satch” Bowers, 73, passed away Monday, August 11, 2025, making his final journey to his Heavenly Father after a courageous battle with cancer.
Steve was born November 21, 1951, to Stanley and Beverly Bowers. He spent most of his life in Lexington, Ohio. During his high school years, Steve was a multi-sport athlete and the quarterback of the 1969-1970 JAC championship team. Upon graduation from Lexington High School in 1970, Steve took his “Best Personality” accolade on the road and attended Indiana State University to play football and study literature. Following college, Steve discovered his passion for working with his hands, which led to a respected and distinguished career in construction. Steve took great pride in the hundreds of projects he led including numerous hospitals, hotels, shopping malls, homes, churches, schools and a nuclear power plant. He took special pride in his role in remodeling the Skyway East restaurant in 1981.
Steve met Deborah Warden shortly after college and they have been inseparable ever since. Their love and devotion for one another and their witty banter continued for over 46 years. Traveling as a child with his family instilled a passion for adventure in Steve, which led him and Deb to traverse the country, before marrying on October 27,1978 and eventually returning to Lexington to raise their children.
After retiring, Steve filled his days with gardening, reading, watching his grandchildren in their various sporting activities, following the Cleveland Indians, and spending time with his wife at Mid-Ohio, perched atop his favorite spot in the Esses. Steve was also an avid enthusiast of the performing arts, frequenting the Renaissance Theatre and the Mansfield Playhouse. His lifelong love for learning led to many hours spent as a voracious reader. He also enjoyed spending countless hours at the library, attending lectures, and sharing his most loved aphorisms with others. Among his most prized awards include his generational blue ribbon for his potatoes and sunflowers at the Bellville World’s Fair.
Steve leaves behind his cherished wife of nearly 47 years, Deborah (Warden) Bowers; his children: Betsy Huggins and Silas (Jen) Bowers; along with grandchildren: Gavon Huggins, Alyse Huggins, Jackson Bowers and Lucas “Duke” Bowers; as well as his father, Stanley R. Bowers. Steve is also survived by three devastatingly handsome and entertaining brothers: Mike (Deb) Bowers, Bruce Bowers, and Tom (Lynne) Bowers; along with a faithful network of extended family and countless lifelong friends. Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Beverly (Dillon) Bowers and son-in-law, Jeff Huggins.
A graveside service for friends and family will be held Friday, August 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Shauck Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mansfield Playhouse Building Fund, 95 E. 3rd Street, Mansfield, Ohio, 44902.
