T.(heodore) George Hess passed away July 29, 2025. He leaves behind the love of his life, Paula Ransom Hess, just shy of celebrating 45 years of marriage; sons Jeffrey (AnnMarie) Brookfield WI, Eric (Courtney) Port Clinton, OH and David (Ansley White) Phoenix, OR; Grandchildren- Ryan and Alison Hess (WI) Step-grandchildren Kasey & Caden Swander (OH); Brother- Alden Hess, Ooltewah, TN and Linda Beal, mother of his sons.
George was born in Bronxville, NY, January 27, 1945 to Theodore Klein Hess and Alison Williams Coe Hess. He grew up in Westfield, NJ and graduated from Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School and received his BA degree from Ohio Wesleyan and a Certificate of Completion for executives from Harvard Business School.
George started his 35-year career in telecommunications with Ohio Bell and joined United Telephone Company, then becoming vice president of Sprint Services in Kansas City. He held executive positions with seven different telecommunications start-up companies. George worked for Higbee Company in Cleveland in real estate development of the “flats” and later affiliated in real estate with Coldwell Banker in Santa Rosa, CA serving as treasurer for the Santa Rosa, CA chapter of REALTORs for three years, and Coldwell Banker Mattox McCleery Mansfield, OH and was a candidate for the CCIM designation. He was currently affiliated with Sluss Realty.
George enjoyed being involved in civic responsibilities which included campaign chairman of Muskingum County Cancer Society, campaign chairman of the Knox County United Way, and campaign chairman of the Richland County United Way where he also served as Board President and member of the state board of directors of United Way of Ohio. George was a past member of the alumni board of directors for Ohio Wesleyan University. He was chairman of the Planning Commission for the city of Strongsville, OH, past vice president of Mansfield Rotary, past president of Kiwanis in Santa Rosa, CA, and a member of the board of directors for the YMCA in Mt Vernon, OH. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Lodge #9 of Free Masons, Valley of Columbus Scottish Rite, past member of Baku Grotto and past member of the Shriners’ Ararat Temple in Kansas City. He was also a member of SCORE and Hermit Club in Mansfield.
An active member of First Congregational Church George served as past chairman of the stewardship committee as well as church treasurer.
A Memorial Service will be held at First Congregational Church at 12noon on Saturday, August 9 with calling hours from 11-12. For all friends who aren’t able to personally attend, George’s memorial service will be Live on Facebook at First Congregational Church Mansfield, Ohio.
A private family burial at the Mansfield Memorial Park will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to the First Congregational Church Spire Fund Campaign.
