It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Larry Gene Blunk, who departed this life peacefully on August 1, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was 80 years old.

Larry was a man who lived fully, with grace, humor, and a deep sense of loyalty to the people and passions that meant the most to him. An avid golfer, he found great joy and peace on the course, where many of his happiest moments were spent with close friends and loved ones. Whether perfecting his swing or simply enjoying the beauty of the game, golf was more than a pastime — it was a reflection of his steady spirit and appreciation for life.

His professional life was marked by dedication, integrity, and service. Larry enjoyed a long and respected career working for the Richland County Engineer’s Office and later for the State of Ohio. He also co-founded and operated a successful land surveying business alongside his longtime friend and business partner, Danny Albert. Together, they built more than a company — they built a legacy of trust and precision in the communities they served.

He was also a devoted sports fan who never missed a chance to take in a good game. Whether attending events in person or watching from his favorite chair at home, Larry followed his favorite teams with passion and pride. More than anything, he loved watching his grandchildren compete. He attended as many of their games as he could over the years, cheering from the sidelines with unwavering support and pride. His presence was a fixture at their sporting events, and his encouragement meant the world to them.

But nothing meant more to Larry than his family. He was a devoted father and grandfather, whose presence brought warmth, strength, and comfort to every gathering, large or small. His love for those closest to him was steadfast, and he made sure they always knew it — through quiet support, shared laughter, or a simple, reassuring smile. He faced his illness with bravery, resilience, and unwavering grace, never allowing it to define him or diminish his love for life. His strength inspired all who knew him.

Larry is survived by Carol Freytag, his significant other of more than 35 years; his children, Debbie Ticknor, Tim Blunk, Rob Blunk (Karen), Tom Blunk (Kristin), Steve Blunk (Della); 14 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Linda Blunk; niece, nephews and by many friends who became like family over the years. His memory will live on in every story shared, every round of golf played, and every act of kindness carried forward in his name.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Agnes and Gene Blunk and brother Ron Blunk.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, August 10 from 2:00 – 4:00pm at Herlihy Funeral Home, 173 Park Avenue West. A celebration of Larry’s life will then be held at 4:00pm. Private family burial will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests an donations be made to the American Cancer Society, or Plant a tree in his name in honor of Larry’s brave fight and enduring spirit.

He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
