GALION — The Galion Community Band will hold its final summer concert on Sunday, Aug. 10 at 6 p.m. in the pavilion of the First United Church of Christ at 248 Harding Way West, Galion.
The concert is free to the public with a free will donation to help support the Band. The concert is made possible in part by the support of The Galion Community Foundation, the Galion Elks, William and Marilyn Stepro and Metronome Music.
The band will be under the direction of Brian Treisch, Laura Mangas, and Wyatt Estep.
The band will perform “The Star Spangled Banner” arranged by Damrosch and Sousa, “Rolling Thunder” by Fillmore, “Beautiful Ohio” by Earl, arranged by Beeler, “Majestia” by Swearingen, a euphonium solo “Mirror Lake” by Montgomery, “Bonds of Unity” by King, an alto saxophone solo “Romance” by Binge and transcribed by Mitchell, “1812 Overture” by Tshaikovsky and arranged by Williams.
The Galion Community Band first performed in 1976 under the direction of Mr. Tom Bowman. The band has performed almost every summer since.
The band members include adults from the surrounding area and students from Col. Crawford, Galion, Northmor, Clear Fork and Shelby. Several members of the band are in college music programs at Bowling Green and Baldwin-Wallace.
“This is a very nice group of musicians in the band,” said Brian Treisch, longtime director of the band. “We hope the community comes out to hear this fine ensemble.”
Soloist performing with the band are Austin Vanhouten on euphonium and J. Bishop on alto sax. Vanhouten is a student at Clear Fork High School.
Bishop is a Galion graduate and has performed in the pit at the Galion Community Theatre and with the Shawshank Big Band.
Concert goers are asked to bring a lawn chair to this outdoor concert. In the event of rain, the concert will be held in the church.
Also providing assistance for the concert are the Galion City Schools, The First United Church of Christ, and Brian and Brenda Treisch.
