Cheryl A. Johnson, age 72, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2025, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, surrounded by her loving family.

Born January 2, 1953, in Bellevue, Ohio to Patrick Jenney and Opal (Kibler) Hershner; she had been a Shelby resident for the majority of her life. A 1971 graduate of Shelby High School, Cheryl was employed as a dental assistant at Dr. Johnson’s office in Shelby and Upper Sandusky for over 20 years. She then worked at the Wyandot Memorial Hospital in Upper Sandusky as a patient receptionist until her retirement in 2016.

Cheryl was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Gamma Beta Chapter of Lambda Chi Omega Sorority and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed cross stitching, gardening flowers, spending time with her dog Gabby and traveling to Las Vegas Casino’s. Most of all she loved her family and enjoyed watching her grandchildren’s sporting events.

She is survived by her sons: Bret (Kim) Johnson of Perrysburg, Ohio and Todd (Angel) Johnson of Shelby, Ohio; three grandchildren: Bre Johnson, Jake Johnson and Sofi Johnson; two great-grandchildren, Nova Thomas and Wayde Thomas; two nieces, Monica Jenney of Shelby, Becky Jenney of Belleville; other relatives and her lifelong friends, Terry and Wendy Craft.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, John Johnson in February of 2025, and two brothers Gregg & Jeff Jenney.

Per Cheryl’s request, no services will be observed. In place of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Humane Society of Richland County at 3025 Park Ave W, Mansfield, OH 44906.
