The Givens family lost their matriarch, Mary Katherine Givens, 92, on July 23, 2025. Mary, a loving wife and mother, passed away peacefully at her home in her sleep.

Mary was born May 19,1933 in Uniontown, KY to Arthur and Hazella Bumpus. Mary was a devoted wife and mother. Who along with her husband was supportive of their children and grandchildren as they played basketball, volleyball, track, baseball and soccer among other sports and music and theater. If one of her kids was involved, Mary was there.

When her youngest child entered school, Mary began working as a cashier at St. Peter’s cafeteria for numerous years until retiring in 1985. She was considered “mother” to many students who she would never let go hungry, which is why many referred to her as “Mom Givens”. Mary also worked part-time at Lazarus Department Store where she later also retired.

Mary celebrated her faith and was an active member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church for over 60 years. She was active in many ministries including Stephen Ministries, Mother’s Club and The Daughter of Isabella and The Church Festival.

Mary leaves many to celebrate her life. She is survived by six children: Catherine Williams, Gregory (Denise) Givens, Kevin (Debra) Givens, Doreen Givens, Martha (Clarence Jr) Glaze, Beverly Anderson. Fourteen grandchildren: Aaron (Rachel) Williams, Patrick (Michelle) Williams, Rachel Williams, Lisa (JJ) Giddings, Jeremy Givens, Daniel Givens, Michael (Tess) Givens, Amanda (Earl Jr) Windom, Virginia (Lee Jr) Anthony, Stephanie Andrews, Rebecca (Stephen) Cook, Desmond Anderson, Roneisha Anderson, Melissa Givens. Eighteen great-grandchildren, Olivia Williams, Julianna Williams, Elizabeth Williams, Chase Bryant, Katherine Bryant-Windom, Kara Windom, Nevaeh Anthony, Aallyiah Anthony, Ella Anthony, Lee Anthony III, Demond Stanford, Kamani Phillips, Zion Phillips, Logan Cook, Rhydian Cook, Peyton Giddings, Elijah Anderson, Naia Givens, Alden Givens, Nellie Givens. One great-great grandson Chase Bryant Jr and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 60 years Milton A. Givens, son Milton (Ron) Givens, brother Earl Bumpus and sisters Elizabeth, Viola, Doris, Marie.

Our family would like to Ohio Health Hospice with Compassus for their excellent care and assistance with our mother Mary’s care in her final days.

The family will receive family and friends at Herlihy Funeral Home, 173 Park Avenue West, on Thursday, July 31 from 4-7pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am Friday, August 1 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 60 S. Mulberry Street. Burial will follow at the Mansfield Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Pat Kracker Breast Cancer Foundation.
