SHILOH — Ten thousand pounds of beef sells quicker than one might think.

That’s why arriving at the first day of the annual Shiloh Firemen’s Ox Roast is critical to capturing a share of the infamous roast beef sandwiches — which in past years have sold out midway through the event’s second day.

Entering its 59th year, the two-day event will run Friday and Saturday along West Main Street.

Food sales are available Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Roast beef sandwiches are set at a price of $5.

Besides beef, the menu includes hot dogs, baked beans, potato salad, cake and pie.

Bulk sales of meat, baked beans and potato salad will also be offered at the fire station on Delaware Street. All sales must pay cash or check.

Other food vendors will also be on-site.

Besides the beef

The Firemen’s Ox Roast involves more than just food. Several activities are planned during the two-day event.

A garden tractor pull is planned for Friday at 6:30 p.m., followed by live music from 8 to 11 p.m. from Patrick Jaeckin: Loose Strings.

Fireworks are scheduled for dark on Friday night. All shows are free admission.

The parade will travel down West Main Street beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday, followed by more live music, this time from Blue Moonshine from 8 to 11 p.m.
