MANSFIELD – Not all heroes wear capes. But all heroes should certainly be remembered for their contributions and donations.

OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital unveiled its Wall of Heroes on Wednesday afternoon, as they honored eight donors who have given the gift of life over the last four years.

Mansfield Hospital President, Dr. Curt Gingrich, and OhioHealth Foundation Philanthropy Advisor Erin Stine opened the ceremony greeting the families and reflecting on the importance of organ donors.

“May this wall remind us of the quiet heroism that goes on inside of this hospital,” Stine said.

The idea for the wall was brought up in December of 2022 by Andrea Ross during an OhioHealth committee meeting. Ross, an RN at Mansfield Hospital, said she had seen a donor wall before and knew one needed to be in Mansfield Hospital to honor the donors and their families.

“We want this space to be a place where families can come sit and reflect,” Ross said.

Almost thirty families were contacted about being represented on the wall, and eight were included as part of the first installment. This is just the beginning however, as the wall plans to be fully utilized to honor donors of the hospital going forward.

For Milly Beasley, the afternoon was full of pride knowing her husband’s gift would be remembered forever. Beasley’s husband Steven passed away in July of 2021 and his corneas were donated to help a patient restore their eyesight.

She said her husband wanted to be a donor because he knew how precious and important it was to be able to donate.

“It brings me comfort and honor knowing someone is able to see now because of him,” Beasley said.
