PLYMOUTH — Montel Gordon has worked his way up the professional ladder.
Gordon has served at the Plymouth Police Department for about 16 years, beginning as an auxiliary officer in 2008. He continued to move upward within the department, from part-time to full-time, then lieutenant to captain.
During an emergency meeting on July 2, Plymouth lawmakers confirmed Gordon’s appointment to the chief position, which became effective Sunday.
“I never thought this would happen,” Gordon said during an interview Thursday morning.
“It wasn’t something that was planned early on in my career. I just wanted to be a police officer.
“Ever since I was a kid, I always wanted to be a police officer. That was my dream.”
Gordon will be taking over for retiring Plymouth Police Chief Thomas Hintz and will be sworn in Tuesday during Village Council’s regular meeting.
Plymouth Village Council meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at 48 W. Broadway St. Meetings are also livestreamed on the village’s Facebook page.

Village Council approved two additional police department appointments during Wednesday’s emergency meeting.
Noah Finley’s position as a probationary full-time officer became effective Sunday.
Marc Rodriguez has successfully completed his six-month probationary period. His appointment as a regular full-time police officer became effective June 22.
The Plymouth Police Department is located at 48 W. Broadway St.
