James Richard Hanes, 80 of Shiloh, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at home with his wife at his side, following a battle with Parkinsons and dementia.
Jim was born in Lima, Ohio on January 31, 1945, to Clarence Eugene Hanes and Wilma Jean Lee Hanes. The oldest of three sons, Jim, attended college at Kent State University for a short time before starting a career with Pepsi in Lima, Ohio. He was with Pepsi for 17 years and during that time Jim moved his family to south Texas where he owned a Pepsi distributorship. After Pepsi, Jim branched out into sales and management with multiple companies until he retired and returned to Ohio where he met and married his wife, Theresa on March 30, 2006. They lived their lives on the farm until his passing.
Jim loved spending time with his family whenever possible. He was a Christian man and had a passion for God’s word. He also had a love for sports, especially football and baseball. He loved to share stories of when he played ball or attended games. His favorite football team was the Pittsburgh Steelers. His favorite baseball team was the Cleveland Guardians. He was known during baseball season to wear the ball for the team playing against the Cleveland Guardians, mostly to strike up conversations with those who saw him.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa Kinstle; his brothers, Dan (Joyce) Hanes and Steve Hanes; his children, Christina Worley, Melissa (Zach) Preddy, and Richard (Marcie) Hanes; a very special nephew, Mike Kinstle; and special niece, Heather (Bryan) Baker; grandchildren, Kristofer (Bri) Moore, Katelyn (Keith) Lane, Kaelan Pratt, Kennedy (Hunter) Bozard, Troy Hanes, Addison (Tucker) Doughty; great grandchildren, Jack Lane and Bryson Lane; and by one brother-in-law; and three sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews and many of long-time friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Scot Worley; and brothers-in-law, Karl Kinstle Jr., Howard Kinstle, Tim Kinstle and Tom Kinstle.
An interment service will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the Franklin Cemetery. Friends and family may visit at home, 323 Eby Road, Shiloh, Ohio 44878 on Monday, July 7, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
